The
Great Apes have existed for millions of years. Genetically, we
are nearly identical. And, they are facing extinction. All are
expected to vanish from the wild within this century, some within
a decade.
How can people respect and embrace the critical movement toward
ecological literacy and global oneness if we so disrespect those
most like us by delivering their extinction?
Over the last several years, a few courageous and brilliant
scientists have devoted their lives to researching these amazing
creatures. Their reports are consistent and remarkable. Bonobos,
chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans are thinking, self-aware,
intelligent beings! They clearly can learn language.
If we are to respect Mother Nature, we must listen when she
speaks. The whole range of this research, exploring apes’ intelligence,
communication, social interactions and cultural expressions
is astounding. It must be advanced respectfully, honorably and
openly. Before it’s too late, we must know these remarkable
creatures better. The public, not-for-profit, Great Ape Trust
of Iowa will help.
Led by a collaboration among many respected scientists from
multiple disciplines, with a range of beliefs, points of view
and methodologies, Great Ape Trust of Iowa will blend sanctuary,
research and education to deliver an honorable home and dignified
future for our Great Ape residents.
Great Ape Trust of Iowa visitors will discover nearly 230 acres
of native Iowa river forest — transformed into expansive
habitats for communities of Great Apes. All this will be accomplished
and demonstrated within a global context focused on conserving
natural habitat and biodiversity.
For the rest of their existence, our fellow Great Apes will
rely on humans for their survival. Great Ape Trust of Iowa is
dedicated to saving them, knowing them, and advocating for them.
The Great Apes of Earth would very much appreciate your help.
